Saskatoon businesses are feeling more confident about the city’s economic outlook, and their own prospects, as they close out 2022 and prepare for 2023 according to a city-wide survey commissioned by the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce. 

Access to capital is critical for the development and expansion of Saskatchewan small businesses. Small businesses (1-49 employees) are the backbone of Saskatchewan’s economy, and primary job creators, with nearly 150,000 small businesses operating in the province accounting for more that 98% of businesses and representing nearly one-third of Saskatchewan’s GDP - small businesses are no small contributors. It is clear that our future depends on innovators, creators and independent owner-operators who are primed to grow and ready to scale up.

A stellar group of winners was announced last evening at the 2022 SABEX Awards held at TCU Place. SABEX is Saskatoon’s premier business awards program that honours Saskatoon businesses and non-profit organizations that exemplify high performance, excellence and achievement.

Small and medium-size businesses could benefit the most from proposed changes to Saskatchewan’s property tax model based on an expert study commissioned by the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities (SUMA) that outlines how the model could be made more simple, fair and transparent.

The location known as “Site A” or “Midtown” is preferred for a future arena and entertainment district based on a review of options by the Chamber’s Task Force and the results of a member survey.

The Saskatoon Business Barometer survey has been extended to September 26. This annual, comprehensive survey of businesses is aimed at capturing and benchmarking the level of business confidence in the city. The ability to benchmark business confidence annually helps the Chamber to shape pro-growth policy development at the local and provincial level.
