Strengthening Regional and National Prosperity
Today, the Saskatoon Chamber is here in Regina, representing Saskatoon's local businesses at the Western Canada Economic Forum (WCEF). We’re working to build relationships and contribute to the broader conversation on how a strong regional economy drives national growth. The focus of today’s discussions is on how a thriving Western Canadian economy—spanning British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba—can strengthen Canada's economic standing, and how national prosperity, in turn, fuels growth across the West.
The Premier noted this morning, Saskatchewan is an energy and food powerhouse, with resources that are integral to both Canadian and North American economic strength. The conversations this morning have underscored the importance of working together, not only for regional prosperity but also for North American security. We know that Saskatoon businesses rely on the integration of the Canadian and US economies, and there is a need to protect these vital relationships. If we don't take the lead in fostering open trade across the border, others will—and retaliatory, broad-sweeping tariffs could take control, ultimately undermining our industries and shared prosperity on both sides of the border.
Hearing from experts today reinforces the need for collaboration across provinces and with key trading partners to maintain and grow our economic strength.
