Canadian Chamber Stands Firm on Trade Relations During U.S. Presidential Inauguration
This week, the Canadian Chamber network was represented on the ground in Washington, D.C., during the U.S. presidential inauguration, ensuring that Canadian interests were front and center. With proposed tariffs on the table, the Canadian Chamber delivered a strong message to key U.S. decision-makers that such measures harm—not help—our economies. Tariffs increase costs, disrupt cross-border trade, and put millions of jobs at risk on both sides of the border, threatening the $1.3 trillion in annual trade that drives prosperity for both nations.
While in Washington, the Canadian Chamber team emphasized that tariffs are essentially a tax on American families and businesses and do not serve the U.S. economy. Instead, they proposed collaborative solutions to grow our shared trade relationship, protect jobs, and bolster economic recovery.
Our Chamber network continues to work tirelessly to reduce trade barriers, diversify trading partnerships, and prepare Canada for economic challenges. Tools like the Canada-U.S. Trade Tracker and ongoing dialogue with government, businesses, and media are pivotal to advancing this mission. For both Canada and the U.S., the message is clear: prosperity comes from working together, not apart.
