June 19, 20242025 Provincial Revaluation Consultation
July 3, 2024For over a year, we have voiced concerns about Tire Stewardship Saskatchewan’s (TSS) decisions that are undermining the local tire recycling market. According to recent media reports (June 19) it has been confirmed that TSS has been shipping tires outside the province for processing, which is against provincial regulations and undermining Saskatoon jobs.
In a recent letter to Minister Tell, we have proposed a 50% reduction in the Tire Recycling Fee (TRF) on new tires until all scrap tire processing is done within Saskatchewan.
We strongly believe that our businesses and consumers should not be required to pay a surcharge on any government-sponsored product or service for which they are receiving no benefit. It is essential that the fees collected are used to support local processing and economic growth within our province. This move aims to ensure that our local economy reaps the full benefits of the recycling program.
