The Saskatoon Chamber gathered feedback from members across multiple sectors on proposed electricity rate increases and used this input to inform a formal submission to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel.
More than 70% of respondents identified their businesses as moderately to heavily electricity-intensive, with limited ability to reduce usage in the short term. While members expressed appreciation for the reliability and long-term planning of Saskatchewan’s Crown utilities, they also raised growing concerns about affordability and cumulative cost pressures.
Members indicated that higher electricity rates directly increase operating costs, compress margins, and are often passed on to consumers. Concerns were also raised about interim rate increases being implemented before the completion of the full review, creating uncertainty for budgeting and business planning. The Chamber’s submission emphasizes the importance of transparency, clarity, and meaningful consultation, to support business confidence and competitiveness.
