$66.5 million in revenue sharing for Saskatoon welcome news
SASKATOON, SK – March 19, 2025 – The 2025-2026 Provincial Budget, tabled today, prioritizes critical investments in healthcare and education while delivering for small and midsize businesses by including the highly anticipated Small and Medium Enterprise Investment Tax Credit proposed by the Saskatoon Chamber.
The Chamber is pleased to see the inclusion of its proposed 45 per cent non-refundable tax credit. This commitment recognizes the critical role small and midsize enterprises play in driving economic growth. By incentivizing direct outside investment, the tax credit will help businesses access capital, enhance operations, create jobs, and support long-term sustainability.
The Chamber is also pleased that the small business tax rate will remain frozen at one percent providing stability for businesses. Saskatchewan will continue to offer the highest threshold of annual income in Canada, allowing businesses to claim up to $600,000 under this rate.
The province’s record-breaking $361.8 million in municipal revenue sharing for the upcoming year is also good news for Saskatoon ratepayers. The City of Saskatoon’s share will increase by 6.3% or $66.5 million in unrestricted funds.
“This budget provides the stability and climate for our businesses to remain competitive and resilient in light of the tariff challenges we may face,” says Aebig. “By providing certainty and shoring up the capacity of our biggest job creators, Saskatchewan is well positioned to weather any economic threats that may be on the horizon.”
According to the Chamber, other highlights for Saskatoon businesses includes:
- Funding to facilitate the hiring approximately 100 new municipal police officers.
- Hiring 14 new Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) personnel to reduce crime by targeting nuisance properties.
- Introducing the Saskatchewan Class 1 Truck Driver Training Rebate Program for individuals seeking their commercial driving licence.
- Reduction in the education property tax mill rate for all property classes.
In the year ahead, the Chamber will continue to focus on advancing the priorities of Saskatoon businesses, including:
- Provincial property tax reform
- Crime Prevention Rebate for Small Business
- Made in Saskatchewan “Fund of Funds”
- Red Tape Reduction – Implementation of the ‘Automatic Yes’ Tool Kit
