The Saskatoon Chamber has been actively engaged on an urgent issue affecting one of our city’s most iconic tourism assets and its broader economic implications. Escalating sandbar accumulation on the South Saskatchewan River—due to insufficient water releases from the Gardiner Dam—has rendered the river unnavigable through Saskatoon. Without immediate intervention from the Water Security Agency, the Prairie Lily riverboat, operated by Chamber member Prairie River Cruises Ltd., will be unable to operate for the 2025 season.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as we advocate for a timely and coordinated response to ensure Saskatoon’s river-based economy remains strong.
