Proposed Pacific Avenue Shelter – Managing the Impact
September 25, 2024
The Saskatoon Chamber is raising concerns about a potential change in the federal interpretation of the Canada Health Act, which could impact employer-funded virtual care services. Since 2017, these services have been crucial for businesses, particularly those with remote teams, as they provide essential healthcare support without additional costs to taxpayers.
The proposed change aims to eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for healthcare but may unintentionally remove access to virtual care funded by employers, affecting nearly ten million Canadians. This could strain the public healthcare system and impose financial burdens on provincial governments. We have raised these concerns with the Federal Health Minister, and urge government to support efforts to ensure that employer-funded virtual care remains available, preserving this valuable resource for businesses and their employees.
