Saskatoon’s newly announced Housing Continuum Network has released a report on the significant gap in the housing inventory and the new units that will be needed to accommodate the future growth projected by the Government of Saskatchewan’s Growth Plan. This predicted increase of 219,000 residents by the year 2030 will require between 95,500 to 141,500 additional housing unit according to the report. Since 1990 builders in the province have delivered only 98,350 new units to the market.

In order to encourage a healthy housing supply to be able to account for the projected increase in population the report helps to identify existing gaps in the housing continuum while providing insights to policy makers that are Saskatchewan specific.

The Chamber is pleased to see Saskatchewan specific housing inventory research. This report and the continued work of the Network will help to inform better public policy creation and support the healthy growth of our province.
