Federal Border Measures for Air Travel

Right Honourable Justin Trudeau
Prime Minister of Canada

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,

Prior to the pandemic, Saskatoon had highly valued non-stop U.S. transborder connectivity and international sun destinations which enabled important inbound and outbound travel and trade routes for our local economy. With the number of fully vaccinated individuals increasing throughout Saskatchewan direct air access to Saskatoon through John G. Diefenbaker International Airport is vital.

Direct air access to Saskatoon allows us to welcome visitors, attract and grow businesses, and ship our local and regional goods to markets around the globe. The recent announcement that will not allow Saskatchewan to welcome flights from abroad puts the return of those services and access to goods in jeopardy.

As travel begins to rebound while the pressures of the pandemic lessen, tourism in our community will follow suit syphoning money into the local economy, businesses and the individuals of Saskatoon. However, the ability to recover will be highly effected without international air access across borders and connectivity. For these reasons we urge your government to ensure that the Saskatoon airport can once again be directly accessible for international flights.

Thank you for your strong leadership through this very challenging time, working to chart a course for Canada’s economic future.

As Saskatoon’s voice for business, we are a powerful network of businesses, organizations and community-minded leaders who want the best for their city, province and Country.

Thank you for your consideration.
