September 16, 2022Yesterday the City’s Standing Committee on Finance discussed current procurement practices and their commitment to the ongoing improvement and modernization of supply chain practices and policies. The Chamber is pleased to see the recent improvements to the purchasing power and best value procurement practices put in place since 2018. In particular, the Indigenous Procurement Protocol, the introduction of eBidding and the implementation of the Fusion/SAP programs demonstrate a commitment to these modernization practices.
As outlined in the report, the City spent $211 million, or 56% of the overall procurement spend in the Saskatoon area. Understanding that there are limitations to promoting local businesses first as laid out in various trade agreements, we encourage the City to continue to explore opportunities to grow the existing vendor network and continue to support local suppliers.
