Temporary Wage Subsidy Program

March 30, 2020 – Earlier today the federal government released more details on the Temporary Wage Subsidy Program, including:

  • The 75% subsidy applies to the first $58,700 that an employee earns
  • Employers are eligible if their revenues are reduced by at least 30% as a result of COVID-19
  • There is no limit on the size of company or total number of employees they employ to qualify
  • Non-profits and charities are eligible
  • This measure is retroactive to March 15, 2020

The Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce is pleased to see this new subsidy available to all businesses. This will take away confusion on labelling who qualifies as an SME and will aid communities that are more reliant on larger operations.

Further details and clarification are needed from the government around the eligibility criteria requiring a 30% decrease in revenue to receive the wage subsidy.
